Wales: Landlord registration and licensing begins on 23rd November

The Welsh Government has announced that registration and licensing applications will open for ‘Rent Smart Wales’ on Monday 23rd November 2015. Landlords will be able to register with Rentsmart Wales and begin their licensing applications. Agents will also be able to begin their licensing applications. Bill to help target criminal landlords returns to Parliament

The Local Government Finance (Tenure Information) Bill will receive its 2nd Reading on October 30 2015. Majority of tenants think landlords should pay for damage when the tenancy ends

According to a new study, over 80% of tenants think that their landlords should pay for damage they have caused when their tenancy ends. The study*, conducted by PropertyLetByUs.com – a leading online letting agent, also reveals that over 90% of tenants say they have tried to hide the damage from their landlord and one in ten tenants admits to causing more than £500 worth of damage to their rented property. New laws expose the tenants’ tax charged by councils

Local councils are being urged to drop landlord licensing schemes following the publication of new laws showing that they are not needed. Measures in the Government’s new Housing and Planning Bill make clear that local authorities can use council tax registration forms to ask tenants for details of a properties’ tenure and its landlord to help root out criminal landlords.
