Housing commission wrong on licensing

Proposals to make it easier for London boroughs to introduce landlord licensing schemes will do nothing to root out criminal landlords.
That’s the warning from the Residential Landlords Association (RLA) in response to a new report on housing in the capital out today.

Groundbreaking training partnership announced

A groundbreaking new partnership between the Residential Landlords Association and the TDS Charitable Foundation will help charities and other organisations offer free training on how to rent properties.
Developed by the RLA and funded by the TDS Charitable Foundation, the train2rent scheme will see groups such as housing associations, trusts and residents’ groups given access to specially created training packs including the all materials needed to deliver a course about renting a property.

Landlords renting to illegal immigrants get new protection

Landlords will no longer be immediately criminalised for failing to pick up illegal tenants says the RLA, which has campaigned for changes to the government’s right to rent legislation.
Changes to the Immigration Bill will provide protection for landlords who take reasonable steps in an appropriate time frame to terminate tenancies of tenants in the country illegally.
